Oasis Contemplative Renewal
Personal (DIY) Preparation Two

Please note that you will need a pen and a journal or paper for this session.

Stillness Meditation

Devoutly spend three to five minutes intentionally placing yourself in God’s presence and becoming consciously aware that He is with you. Despite your solitude, you are not alone—the triune God is present with you and within you.

Begin by taking a deep cleaning breath and slowly exhale.

Soften your body into a comfortable position.

Soul Tending Worship (pause and ponder as you quiet your body.)

Awareness Prayers

{This process will take approximately 20 minutes.}

Slowly read each scripture as a prayer to the Father, personalizing the language as you let your words be directed by God. Then, answer the question posed in the prayer as you begin your dialogue with God.

Continue until you’ve completed all three prayers.

Slow Down

Psalm 46:10 (AMPC)

Let be and be still and know (recognize and understand) that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations! I will be exalted in the earth!

Father, what do you want to talk to me about letting go and slowing my pace to match Yours?

Solitude

Matthew 6:6 (MSG)

Here’s what I want you to do: Find a quiet, secluded place so you won’t be tempted to role-play before God. Just be there as simply and honestly as you can manage. The focus will shift from you to God, and you will begin to sense His grace.

Why am I tempted by the worldly noise?

Silence

Psalm 28:1 (MSG)

Don’t turn a deaf ear when I call you, God. If all I get from You is deafening silence, I’d be better off in the black hole.

Am I afraid of the silent treatment from You, God?

Discernment Conversation – continuing your dialogue with God

{This process will take approximately 20 minutes.}

Embrace the slow with a heart positioned to discern.

Father, I invite You in. Help me discern what’s truly happening as Your Holy Spirit guides me.

As you read each question, answer honestly without overthinking. Often, overthinking hinders the Holy Spirit’s guidance.

1. Clearly name the decision(s) you need to make or issue you need to resolve. Write it as simply as possible.

2. Compose a brief prayer expressing your intention to align your actions with God’s will regarding a specific decision or issue you need to address.

3. Notice any feelings or preferences you have about the decision(s) or issue(s). Write them down.

4. Ask God to reveal His will. Wait quietly and write what you sense.

5. List important factors that affect your decision—such as values, needs, or limitations.

6. Write out your options along with their pros and cons (advantages/disadvantages).

7. Review what you’ve written. Choose the option that stands out and briefly explain why.

8. Sit with your choice. Notice how it feels. Pray and ask God for confirmation, then write what you sense.

If you’re still unsure, make a choice. Notice how you feel. Remember, God is with you as you decide.

Then, PRAY!
