Losses in the Womb Naming Ceremony

This resource serves as a healing naming ceremony for parents who have experienced the loss of a child due to miscarriage, stillbirth, or abortion.

As someone who has personally gone through the pain of miscarriage, I can attest to the indescribable pain that accompanies the loss of a child in the womb. Naming my daughter brought me a profound sense of healing that I had never known before.

My hope is that this resource will provide you with closure to your pain and help you look forward to the day when you will be reunited with your precious child.

With love and compassion,

Ingrid

Welcome to all families who have lost a child either through miscarriage, abortion or  stillbirth. This simple yet profound ceremony creates a moment in your family history to honor the life of the child that has so changed your life.  It gives you an opportunity to have a celebration of life hopefully adding another layer of healing on your journey.

Regardless of when your loss occurred, we pray this ceremony will give closure to your grieving heart.

Opening Prayer

Let us pray.

Holy Precious Father,

We come before your throne on behalf of our dear friends who desire healing, comfort, and strength for the child they lost and will never hold in their arms. Our hearts are

broken for them, and we long to see them restored. We want to encourage and remind them that this is not the end. We all will see our loved ones again; we will hold our babies flesh so close to us and at last feel their heart beat into our chest. What a moment of  reunion that will be.

Oh, Glorious Father, with your mighty power wash over them with your living water, so that our friends who grieve might feel your presence in this moment and be reminded of the healing power of the precious blood of Jesus. Amen.

Prayer of Healing

Let us pray.

Jesus, we bring these precious moms and dads before you and ask that you would come to each of them right now as the tender healer. We ask that you would quiet

their minds, heal their wounds, wash their guilt, silence their questions and comfort their hearts with your gentle presence, your powerful love and your unending grace. we come to your cross, the place of divine exchange, and we actively lay these things down and ask you to take them and replace them with your good gifts of healing, peace and hope.

Thank you for this deep work that you are doing. We cover each heart with your love and ask that the comforter would continue to invite them into a deep work of healing and that they would have courage and grace to follow you on this precious, tender journey that you have for them.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Scripture Reading for the Families

A reading from 2 Corinthians 4:17-18

For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since

what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

Blessed be our Precious Lord and Savior. Amen.

Prayer of Dedication of the Children

Let us pray.

We dedicate our precious child to you now our Dear Heavenly Father.

Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to carry the life of our dear, sweet little one, even if it was yet brief. Our dear child has profoundly touched our lives and we will

never forget and will always and eternally love you. We trust Jesus will keep you safe in His care until that moment arrives that I am able to hold you for all eternity.  Holy Spirit heal our hearts and gives us the vision to live

faithfully in the hope of everlasting peace and joy as we will be reunited together as family again one day.  What a joyful homecoming that will be. But for now, our sweet angel, we dedicate your life to the Lord and we release you in His care.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Naming Ceremony

The children we lost are people who are loved by God. As their parents, we want to honor and remember them by giving them a name.

Repeat aloud:

“Precious child(ren), I love you and bless you with the name of _____. Even though our time

together on earth was much too short, I consider you a gift to me and i await the day when we will be together again in heaven.”

A Love Letter To Your Precious Child

In my dreams, you are alive and well
Precious child, precious child
In my mind, I see you clear as a bell
Precious child, precious child

In my soul, there is a hole
That can never be filled
But in my heart, there is hope
'Cause you are with me still

In my heart, you live on
Always there never gone
Precious child, you left too soon
Tho' it may be true that we're apart
You will live forever... In my heart

In my plans, I was the first to leave
Precious child, precious child
But in this world, I was left here to grieve
Precious child, my precious child

In my soul, there is a hole
That can never be filled
But in my heart there is hope
And you are with me still

In my heart you live on
Always there, never gone
Precious child, you left too soon,
Tho' it may be true that we're apart
You will live forever... In my heart

God knows I want to hold you,
See you, touch you in heaven.

Writing a Letter to Your Child

Writing a letter to your beloved child can bring you inner peace. Express your heartfelt emotions and thoughts.

What would you like to to your precious baby? When you are prepared, share your letter with your child.

In the Gospel of John it is written

I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid. May the peace of our Heavenly Father, the Author of Life, give you peace as you find your way into His healing arms. (John 14:27)

A Poem to Heal Your Mother’s Heart

Heaven lit up with His mighty presence,
As all the Angels looked down,
Today the Lord was placing the jewels,
In all the mother's crowns.
As He held up a golden crown,
As all the mother's looked on,
He said in His gentle voice,
"I just want to explain each stone".
He held the first gem in His hand
But the radiance couldn't match His own.
For He was the light of Heaven,
Reflecting off each of the stones.
"The first gem," He said, "is an emerald,
And it's for endurance alone,
For all the nights you waited up.
For your children to come home.
For all the nights by their bedside,
You stayed till the fever went down,
For nursing every little wound,
I add this emerald to your crown."
"A ruby, I'll place by the emerald,
For leading your child in the right way,
For if you hadn't taught them about me,
They wouldn't be here with you today.
For always being right there,
Thru all life's important events,
I give you a sapphire stone,
For the time and love you spent."
"For untying the strings that held them,
When they grew up and left home,
I give you this one for courage."
Then the Lord added an amethyst stone.
"I'll place a stone of garnet," He said,
"For all the times you spent on your knees,
When you asked me to take care of your children,
And them for having faith in me."
"I have a pearl for every little sacrifice,
That you made without them knowing,
For all the times you went without,
To keep them happy, healthy, and growing."
"And last of all I have a diamond,
The greatest of all gems,
For those mothers who lost their children,
When they came home to heaven before them."
"This is the most precious sacrifice,
So I give the most precious stone,
For I know just how you felt,
I too lost a child of my own."

After the Lord placed the last jewel in,
He said, "Heaven is now complete,
For every mother has her crown of jewels,
And all her children are at her feet."

Father, comfort her mother’s heart.

A Poem to Heal Your Father’s Heart

We never had the chance to play, to laugh, to rock, to wiggle

We long to hold you, touch you now, and listen to your giggle.

She'll always be your mother, and I'll always be your Dad,

You will always be our child - the child we never had.

But now you're gone ... but yet you're here. We sense you everywhere,

You are our sorrow and our joy. There's love in every tear.

Just know our love goes deep and strong, that we'll forget you never,

The child we had, but never had - and yet will have forever.

Father, comfort His father’s heart.

Allow the Personalized and Emphasized words from Psalm 23 to wash over you as your soul continues to heal.

Lord, You are my closest companion, healing and nourishing me. Why do I always have abundance? Because You are, after all, my Best Friend.

You provide me with a place to rest in Your abundant love, where I am learning to remain and dwell. I desire, Lord, to embrace Your invitation to relax and still my soul. Listening to You and following Your guidance leads me daily to a peaceful oasis and a serene stream of contentment. Here, You renew and revitalize my life. Lord, I ask you, what does my restored and revived life look like? You guide me as You direct my steps. By matching Your pace, following You each day, and remaining in Your presence, I am learning to ebb and flow with Your every move.

Fear will never conquer or overwhelm me, even when the path takes me through the valley of deepest darkness and wave upon wave of warfare. You always remain close to me, consistently by my side. What does it look like, Lord, to not be full of fear?

The solace of Your love dispels all fear, ensuring I am never alone. Your power is my source of strength and tranquility. You and Your trusty shepherd's crook stand by me and support me constantly.

You serve a royal dinner, even when the adversary has the audacity to battle. I partake of Your custom feast for two on the battlefield. Why? Because You want my enemies to see what they are missing and rub it in their faces as You show them Whose I am!

My life overflows with blessings from the essence of the Holy Spirit. He fills me with His presence until my heart overflows. His tangible presence alters and transforms the atmosphere around me.

Do I fear the future? No way! No way! No way! No way! Your love and kindness follow me everywhere I go until, at the appointed moment, You take me home to dwell with You for all eternity.

Selah!

I will never look back because that glorious moment is when I begin a life that exceeds all expectations with the Lover of my soul, my Dearest Shepherd, and my Best Friend.

Closing Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,

I bring every grieving parent into your throne of grace. Lord, capture their tears and collect them in a bottle. It is not an easy thing for a parent to lose child. Father comfort them. Help them to continue being faithful to you even through the pain. Lavish them with your love and fill the void left in their hearts with your unconditional love.

Bless the names given to this dear precious child(ren). May there be a celebration in Heaven for these little angels have received their names this day.

In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
