My Daughter

One afternoon, earlier this year, I received a text from my youngest daughter. She shared that she had decided to pursue a relationship with the Lord. A relationship that was hers, based on her decision alone and not because of anything I have said or because of my relationship with the Lord. This took me by surprise for sure, even though I have prayed and declared the salvation of my family members. I rejoiced and praised God for what was taking place. In the days that followed, I watched as my daughter dove into her Bible, sharing scriptures and worship songs, and was elated at what the Lord was doing.

My daughter would be visiting a few months after this, and the idea occurred to me to have her baptized while she was here. I told the Lord I would not bring it up unless an opportunity presented itself. I was trying to honor her relationship with the Lord and let her lead, rather than heavily influence, so that the purity of it remained. I wanted my daughter not to doubt that her relationship with the Lord was hers.

Not too long after, my daughter shared that she had a dream in which she got baptized. She told me that it is something she wants to do, but she just didn't know when/how, since she hadn't found a church yet. There was my opportunity. I suggested that she get baptized while she was here, and she was excited by my suggestion, saying yes!

The next day, I inquired if we could baptize my daughter when she visited, and of course, my team of sisters was more than willing to do it. Soon after, planning was underway. We prayerfully planned every detail of my daughter's special day.

Soon, the day was upon us. The baptism would take place at Vicki's house in her pool. It was the perfect place. Vicki has grandkids as well, so there were toys to keep my two occupied. After we chatted for a bit, words of encouragement were spoken over my daughter, along with prayers, all leading up to the time of the baptism. We got ready and headed out to the pool. "Made for More" was played as we entered the pool. Vicki was on one side, and I was on the other. I spoke over her, and then we baptized her. I really don't have the words to describe what it was like to be a part of my daughter's baptism. It was certainly an honor and a privilege to be able to. I have the best of friends who made it all possible, and of course, the Lord for pursuing my daughter and making her His, and giving me the opportunity. Following the baptism, my daughter was crowned in celebration of who she is and Whose she is.

I carry this day in my heart and have marveled since then at what the Lord is doing in my daughter's life, as well as in the lives of my grandkids.
