The Night That Changed My Life

Thanksgiving night 2017 was a night that changed the course of my life. I was at my father’s house, and everyone had gone to bed after a wonderful day celebrating Thanksgiving together. The house was quiet, and everyone was asleep. I lay in my bed talking to the Lord about my future husband.  At this point, I had been divorced for three years and was desperately seeking a husband. In the still of the night, the Lord gave me the first and last name of my husband to be.  I didn’t have anything to write it down with, so I just said it repeatedly, thinking I would remember in the morning.  However, in the morning, I only remembered his first name. After weeks of contemplating what this meant, I understood the Lord wanted me to know that I wasn’t desperate and to stop seeking the one He had for me and wait for the one He had for me.

In the beginning, the waiting was easy; the excitement was there, and I knew He had a plan. But as the years passed, waiting on God during challenging times was a difficult task.  Moments of profound loneliness, fear, and doubt made my dream of marriage seem distant. I questioned if God understood my desires or heard my prayers. However, in the stillness, He worked behind the scenes, shaping my character and strengthening my faith. When I least expected it, God intervened, orchestrating circumstances beyond my control and giving me a relationship that reflected His love and unwavering faithfulness.

I learned that when we hold a dream close, God holds it even closer.  He knows the perfect time to fulfill our desires, and His timing is always loving. A season of preparation always precedes the blossoming of dreams – a time when our faith is refined and our trust deepened.  For me, waiting became a sacred space to deepen my relationship with Him. Through prayer, scripture, and stillness, I experienced His love in new ways. Intimacy with the Father is a cherished gift, more valuable than any blessing. Throughout my journey, I witnessed how God gently prepares us for His best, molding our hearts and filling us with hope. I now get to experience that being loved by a man who loves the Lord above all else is the most incredible love and so worth the wait. I am so thankful for my family and friends who rallied around me during this journey, who prayed and helped lift me up during moments of doubt.

God’s blessings are indescribable, infusing my life with joy, hope, and peace. Through the waiting, I not only received my heart’s desires but also a deeper relationship with Him that sustains me. My story serves as a testament to the fact that waiting on God is never in vain. In every uncertain season, He remains faithful. I hope my journey inspires you to continue trusting and hoping, knowing that God’s plans are always greater. Regardless of the wait, His love and promises endure as He delights in giving us good gifts.

Whether your dream is marriage, children, health, finances, career, or something else, remember that God sees you and holds your dreams close to His heart.
