inner narrative meditation

Having a journal and pen could be beneficial for this meditation.

Settle into a comfortable position free from distractions.

It's not only external sources that speak lies about our true identity but we deceive ourselves regularly. It can be eye-opening to consider how often we make statements like...

I am inadequate.

I am worthless.

I have no value.

I am a failure,

I am unseen.

If people knew the real me they would not like me.

I am no good.

I am weak.

I am lonely.

I am unlovable.

I am not perfect and I need to be perfect to be accepted.

I am easy to leave. My parent or parents left, my husband abandoned me, and my friends left.

I am stupid.

I am powerless.

I am boring.

I am ugly.

I am fat.

I am a loser.

I am [fill in the blank]!

When lies infiltrate our souls, they cause trauma. By allowing these lies to linger and take root in our hearts, we embrace a distorted perception of our true selves. We can climb out of this pit. We hold the authority to guide our thoughts. Our words have the power to bring either life or death (Proverbs 18:21). We shape the story of our own life through the words we speak.

Let’s dedicate time to pursuing the truth as we examine our hearts to uncover the falsehoods we have accepted as truth. These lies are an inaccurate narrative of our beautiful identity!

The reality is

You are beautiful!

You are loved!

You are seen!

You have valuable!

You are His precious treasure!

Your life does matter! It matters so much!

Keep fighting, beautiful! Strive to alter the film that is running in your mind. It won't be simple. It will require significant effort and dedication. It will demand all you have to give. However, pursuing healing and recovery from the damage lies have imprinted on our souls will completely transform our lives.

Inner Narrative Healing Exercise

Let’s meditate on the joy gratitude brings into your life. Focus on something that fills your heart with delight. Allow your heart to expand with the emotion gratitude releases in your body, soul, and spirit.

{Pause and Ponder}

Father, we invite you to bring revelation to our hearts about the unhealthy words or trauma that have shaped us.

What has damaged my God-given identity or made you feel unloved?

What words do I think about myself that do not align with Your Truth?

Take a moment and wait for the still small voice.

{Pause in His Presence}

Now take a deep breath as you feel the Father filling every area of your life with His unconditional love as you see Him holding an eraser wiping away all the lies.

Visualize the Father holding an eraser to erase all of the lies.

{Pause in His Presence}

Father, we ask You to reveal Your truth to our hearts.

Speak words that reveal my true identity and display how much I am valued and loved.

Speak words that reveal how beautiful I am.

Wait on the Father.

{Pause in His Presence}

Allow the truth the Father has spoken over you to sink deep in your heart.

I will give thanks and praise to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Your works, and my soul knows it very well. {Psalm 139:14 (AMP)}

My response is to get down on my knees before My Father, this magnificent Father who parcels out all heaven and earth. I ask Him to strengthen me by His Spirit—not a brute strength but a glorious inner strength. And I ask Him that with both feet planted firmly on love, I will be able to take in the extravagant dimensions of His love. Reach out and experience the breadth! Test its length! Plumb the depths! Rise to the heights! Live a full life in the fullness of My God.  {Ephesians 3:14-19 (MSG)
