valuable pearl  - meditation

I invite you to enter a quiet place with the Father. Gently allow your eyelids to close slowly. Find a comfortable position. Be aware of your breathing.

Breathe in deeply, hold, breathe out slowly and completely. . . Breathe in deeply, hold it, and breathe out slowly and completely... Again, breathe in deeply...hold it...breathe out slowly and completely. . . Once more, breathe in deeply, hold it, and breathe out slowly and completely. Let’s sit in a relaxed position, allowing ourselves to be completely free from all the worries and stress in our lives.

Set yourself on a beach—your favorite beach—safely alone and walking the beach. The sun is a ball of yellow in a brilliant blue sky. Hear the splashing of the waves, listen to the gulls and watch them soaring high, and smell the salt air. Walk slowly, walk along in the sand, and enjoy the solitude.

As you walk, notice a figure approaching you along the water’s edge. There is a peacefulness to this stranger. As He comes closer, you recognize that it is Jesus. Hear Jesus say your name and tell you how glad He is to find you here and to spend time with you.

Notice what you are feeling . . . know Jesus wants to be with you. Hear Jesus invite you to share the pain in your heart and all your frustrations with Him. Feel Jesus give you His complete care and attention as you walk and share with Him. {Pause}

Listen to everything that Jesus now says in response to what you have shared.  {Pause}

Watch as Jesus bends down. He picks up a handful of sand. As He gently closes His fist, the sand trickles through His fingers; then, Jesus opens His hand...there in His palm lies an exquisite pearl. It is luminescent and perfectly shaped. Jesus smiles at you and tells you that He knows the treasure hidden within you.  The treasure is formed from the friction caused by others and maybe yourself. Hold your pearl in your hand and realize the only way your pearl was formed was from the point of pain. That is the treasure Jesus said He saw inside of you. The irritation, the wounding, the offense, the pain you have covered by layer upon layer of love, sacrifice, and forgiveness. {Pause}

Jesus looks into your eyes lovingly and places both of His hands on your salt-stained cheeks. Feel the strength and gentleness of those hands.

He turns to leave, but He has a few questions He wants you to ask yourself before He goes. Allow yourself time to be alone with your true self as you have an open dialogue.
