water’s edge meditation


Take a moment to stop and be still. Get yourself into a comfortable position, whether sitting in a chair or lying on the ground.


See yourself stepping onto a freshly cleaned beach at sunrise, moving from darkness to daylight. Grab a beach chair, take off your flip-flops, and enjoy the sensation of the sand beneath your feet. Allow the gentle salt breeze to ruffle your hair. Notice that you are entirely by yourself as far as your eyes can reach. You are alone in a place of complete solitude.


Begin by paying attention to your breath. Feel the sea breeze on your lips. Take a deep breath of the salty sea air, allowing it to enter your lungs. Observe how your lungs expand as air fills your lungs then contract as you exhale softly. Experience your breath becoming more peaceful. Acknowledge a sense of calmness as you feel the ocean's presence enveloping you.


Take a moment to listen to the sounds surrounding you.

What can you hear?

The waves crashing, the seagulls calling out to you, perhaps the wind whistling by.


Can you detect the invigorating aroma of the sea?

The fragrance of the ocean is a captivating combination known for its refreshing, energizing, and mysterious qualities. How is your sense of smell heightened?


After getting up from your comfortable beach chair, make your way down to the water's edge. While walking towards the waves, pay attention to the stones beneath your feet. The stones on your path. Once you reach the water where the gentle waves are breaking on the shore, let a sense of peace wash over you. Take a moment to observe what you see, smell, hear, taste, and feel - you are in a secure environment.


Observe the thoughts and emotions that this place evokes within you. Sit with your emotions for a moment.


As you gaze at the figure approaching you on the beach, you realize it is Jesus. He walks up to you and extends a warm, heartfelt greeting.

A feeling of familiarity and tranquility washes over you, filling you with happiness.


Perhaps thoughts or questions arise in your mind for Jesus? On the other hand, you might prefer quietness while attempting to process the emotions that arise when you are in His presence. 


When He gazes at you, you can see in His eyes that He is saying, "You be You."

Stay in this moment a little longer.


Jesus indicates that He is about to depart, but then He turns towards you and mentions that he has a special gift intended specifically for you. He presents a wrapped box, and as you unwrap it, you experience the unwavering love of the Father. The gift is a token of the Father's love, for you, His beautiful daughter.


Watching Jesus walk away and disappear into the distance, you find yourself alone once more, clutching His gift. You understand that this place, you can come back whenever you want, is your secret place of safety, privacy, and belonging.


As you start your journey back, you find yourself back where you started.


Take back control of your body and when you're ready, become aware of your surroundings once more.


Consider journaling about your encounter with Jesus.
