Muscia Divina

As with Lectio Divina (sacred hearing) and Visio Divina (sacred seeing), Musica Divina (sacred listening) serves as another vital pathway in prayer.  "Music is the space between notes." – French composer Claude Debussy once said. His words remind us that too much "clutter" can impair our ability to hear from our Great Composer. Music provides us with the space we need to embrace stillness and connect in harmony with God.

Musica Divina Steps to Follow:

Select your music and create your space. Soften your eyes and take a deep, cleansing breath. Slowly exhale. Take another deep breath and, as you exhale, invite the Lord to be with you and speak to you.

Listen closely to the lyrics and melody, especially if your selection includes lyrics. Allow the music to envelop you, creating a cocoon of peace. {Pause}

Pray. Listen a third time, allowing your thoughts to converse openly with the Lord. Pay attention to how He may be responding to you. {Pause}

Finish with a gratitude prayer.
